We had some lovely news this week. The Guardian included Surfing Life in its travel feature, Top 10 budget beach hotels and guesthouses in Sri Lanka.

For a small, family-run guest house in a village most people drive straight past, that means a lot.

What they wrote

The writer called us a home-turned-guesthouse that “attracts a loyal clientele of surf nuts drawn to the nearby reef breaks”. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

The piece also mentioned the things our guests love most:

  • The grassy garden, with hammocks between the trees for lazy afternoons after a swim.
  • The brightly coloured mural on our yellow wall.
  • Ceiling fans and mosquito nets in every room, which are essential on the coast.
  • Books and games for when you’re surfed out.
  • Eric’s cheap surfboard rental, and upright storage space for anyone travelling with their own boards.

They were honest too, and noted we don’t have air-conditioning. We think the sea breeze does a fine job, but it’s fair to mention.

Thank you

This mention belongs to our guests as much as to us. You’re the people who come back season after season and bring your friends. You fill the veranda with stories every evening. Thank you.

Planning a visit?

Interest has picked up since the article, and we only have a handful of rooms. If you’re thinking of coming in the main season, especially around the turn of the year, get in touch early.
